[SPOILER ALERT] The NPR story of an Iraqi woman and an American serviceman is still astonishing to me even after the second listen, because of how quickly everything changed for this woman.
In 3 years, she:
- moved from Iraq to Ozark, MO
- began drinking alcohol
- [presumably] got her first tattoos
- got married
- became a mother
- went from covering herself completely to being an exotic dancer
I am still rather stunned/troubled by this story. I find it to be rather illustrative of the velocity at which people are forced to change their lives given difficult circumstances.
