During the Super Bowl, Disney debuted trailers for their soon to be released animated feature Up. I couldn’t help but notice that one of the protagonists is 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, who bears a striking resemblance to 82-year old Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.
Also, in a stunning coincidence, the episode of The Office that followed the Super Bowl entitled Stress Relief featured a roast in the tradition of the Friar’s Club as televised by Comedy Central. Let it be known that I attempted this very same thing in 2003 with mixed results. The best line of the night was:
If Stumpy were a food he’d be a Twinkie
soaked in scotch — yellow on the
outside, white on the inside, fatty,
nasty, smelly, and no one will eat him.
This can only lead me to two possible outcomes: (1) I am as severely egotistical and buffoonish as the character of Michael Scott, or (2) I am just way ahead of my time.
(They’re both probably true.)
