2009-03-30 » Moneyball II Part II

This may very well be 3:30am escapism, but given that:

  • I can pay all my fixed costs online.
  • I make all of my money online.
  • I don’t have a permanent place to live.
…it would seem that I have no obligations, thus affording me an opportunity to live in Iceland for a while.
After a little searching on my new best travel friend Kayak, it turns out that I could be on a flight as early as Thursday for the whole month of April for as little as $409 and be able to get a hotel for as little as $33 per night.  At a total projected cost of approximately $1300, I could take my extended camping trip to Iceland.  This would be approximately equal to what it would cost to live in a shared environment somewhere in Manhattan, or possibly somewhere alone in Philadelphia.  The locals?  They get American currency.  Me?  I get to disappear.
This graph shows the value of the Icelandic Krona against the baseline of the US dollar since June 1, 2008.  With the Krona bottoming out at approximately 148.23 according to this table and currently at 121.24, I am probably slightly late to the game, though in fairness it has not exceeded a ratio of 129.22 since I was freed of my professional obligations.

This project is suddenly worth sleeping on.  The hardest part of this for me probably, is getting to sleep.
